Special Enrollment Periods

The annual Marketplace Open Enrollment Period is from Nov. 1 to Dec. 15, 2020. However, just like with private insurance, you may be able to enroll outside of open enrollment if you experience a qualifying event.

These Special Enrollment Periods may include:

  • Aging off your parents’ insurance coverage when you turn 26
  • Losing Medicaid coverage 60 days at the end of a pregnancy
  • Retiring early before age 65 when you can enroll in Medicare
  • Losing health coverage due to unemployment
  • Losing COBRA health insurance through a former employer. COBRA coverage only lasts 18 months.
  • Moving to a new area
  • Gaining citizenship
  • Getting married or divorced
  • Having a baby or adopting a child
